Glidden city officials have approved a new employee insurance plan for 2019 that will only cost only a few hundred dollars more per year. At their meeting on Monday, the Glidden City Council reviewed the offered benefits from Wellmark Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Iowa. Clerk, Suzy Danner, says the new plans do vary slightly from their previous ones.
Under the city’s policy, Glidden covers 100 percent of a single employee’s insurance premiums, but the cost would shift to the employee if they want to include members of their family on the plan. Danner says the council did not want to leave employees with an extra $1,000 per year in deductibles.
She adds the total cost to employees should stay about the same, but the city will spend an additional $682 in 2019 on health insurance. The council voted to approve the proposed plan, and the updated insurance benefits will go into effect on Jan. 1 of next year.
