A Council Bluffs man, charged with drug trafficking in District Court for Carroll County, has been ordered to serve probation after reaching a plea agreement with prosecutors. According to court records, 36-year-old Jerrod Mitchell Escritt, of Council Bluffs, was sentenced Monday, Oct. 29 on one count of possession of methamphetamine with the intent to deliver, a class C felony. The charge stems from an incident on June 5 at approximately 1:45 a.m. During a traffic stop, the Carroll Police Department located approximately 3.5 grams of methamphetamine in the trunk of the vehicle, in which he was a passenger. In exchange for his plea, a 10-year prison sentence, $1,000 fine and 35-percent surcharge were suspended, and Escritt was placed on probation for up to three years or until maximum benefits are achieved. He was also ordered to participate in substance abuse treatments, submit to random drug testing and abstain from the use of alcohol and illegal drugs.
