Every year, on the Feast Day of St. Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of animals, the Kuemper Catholic School System holds a special blessing of pets ceremony for the students. Every type of pet, from cats and dogs to donkeys, hermit crabs and even stuffed animals are welcome to participate. Parents can bring the pets on a leash or in a container to the Holy Spirit playground at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 4 for the blessings. In the event of inclement weather, the prayer service will be moved into the Holy Spirit gymnasium. Any animals not in a container, however, will need to remain outside.
