Man Accused Of Stealing Bobcat Sentenced To Prison Time

A man accused of attempting to steal equipment from a Carroll machinery dealer has been sentenced to prison time. According to court records filed Thursday, 35-year-old Gregory Stephen Foust, of West Des Moines, entered a guilty plea to second-degree theft, a class D felony, after reaching an agreement with prosecutors. He was sentenced to serve up to five years in the custody of the Iowa Department of Corrections, and nearly $2,300 in fines, surcharges and attorney fees were suspended because Foust is going to prison and has no ability to repay those costs. He was originally charged with first-degree theft, a class C felony, and possession of marijuana, a serious misdemeanor, after being arrested in late April for stealing a Bobcat 8130 skid loader from Haley Equipment on Highway 30 west in Carroll. In exchange for his guilty plea, prosecutors agreed to reduce the first-degree theft to second degree and dismiss the possession charge. Foust was given credit for time served in the Carroll County jail prior to trial and was transported to the Oakdale Medical Classification Center in Coralville for processing prior to incarceration.
