Local Residents Encouraged To Attend Special Showing Of Movie Featuring Sac County Barn Quilts

Sac County has become well known for the predominance of one very distinctive decorative feature seen throughout the countryside, barn quilts. The popularity of the large geometric squares can even be seen along the barn quilt trail, created by Kevin Peyton as a 4-H project in 2005. The origination of these creative pieces and their continuing popularity have now become the subject of a nearly hour-long documentary, “Pieced Together.” New York producer and director of the film, Julianne Donofrio will be bringing it to Sac County later this month. On Monday, Sept. 24, there will be a special viewing at 7 p.m. at the First Christian Church in Sac City. Doors for the free event will open at 6:15 p.m. and Donofrio will introduce the film and then conduct a question and answer session after. The documentary, that includes footage from Sac County, has already won placement in a number of independent film festivals and traces the origination of the quilts back to Donna Sue Groves of Adams County, Ohio. “This may be the only screening of this film in northwest Iowa, so we hope area residents will take advantage of this opportunity and join us for the evening,” Peyton says.
