One Carroll County 4-H member was selected to represent the county in the 2018 Awardrobe Clothing runway classes at the Iowa State Fair. Kara Daniel of Carroll was given special recognition during the Aug. 9 event for her hard work. There were 120 ninth through 12th grade Iowa youth, representing 71 counties, at the Awardrobe Clothing event who showcased apparel design, product knowledge and creativity skills. Participants prepare a comprehensive report, are judged and then conclude with a runway show. “4-H participants in the Awardrobe Clothing event are evaluated on their oral and written communication skills, project goals, choice of clothing, knowledge of the garment as well as their poise and confidence displayed while modeling their outfits,” says Bonnie Dalager, Iowa State University Extension and Outreach 4-H youth program coordinator. There were three categories: Clothing Selection, in which participants select or purchase an outfit for a special occasion; Fashion Revue, which is a garment constructed, hand-knitted, machine-knitted or crocheted; and the $15 challenge, where an outfit is purchased for $15 or less from garage sales, consignment shops or clothing retail stores.
