Students return to class at the Carroll Community Schools in just over a week, and Superintendent, Dr. Kevin Lein, says the Tiger community is excited to get started. The 2018-19 school year will be his first year as the district’s lead administrator, and according to Lein, nearly everybody is ready to get back into the swing of things.
The first day of class for students is on Thursday, Aug. 23. Teachers began a week earlier with new teachers reporting in this past Tuesday and returning teachers on Friday, Aug. 17. Lein says they are fortunate to be able to welcome several new teachers, with a wide range of experience, to their staff.
As for school policy, Lein indicated no major changes were made over the summer break, but he does say the board will continue to evaluate some existing policies as they move into the school year.
The district’s school buildings and classrooms also did not see significant alterations. Only minor improvements were completed over the break to items such as windows and sidewalks. Nearly all of the maintenance staff’s attention has been focused on the new stadium, and Lein says many cannot wait for its opening night.
Due to a delay in the delivery of construction materials, a joint event between CCSD and Kuemper Catholic Schools to highlight the new facility that was scheduled for Thursday, Aug. 16 has been postponed. “Two Schools, One Community” will now take place on Aug. 29 at 6 p.m. at the Carroll Athletic Stadium. Again, the first day of classes for Tiger students is Thursday, Aug. 23.
