A child was injured while trying to cross the roadway in Graham Park on Wednesday morning. The Carroll Police Department responded at approximately 11:30 a.m. to 7th Street to find that four-year-old Khario Vasquez of Denison was on the east side of the road and attempting to cross when he was struck by a car. Sixteen-year-old Matthew R. Janssen of Carroll told authorities he was southbound in a 2000 Buick Century and came upon an area where there was a legally parked minivan on the east side of the road and a car parked on the west. The child ran from behind the van and tried to cross the roadway and he was unable to avoid striking him with the right side of the car. The child fell to the ground, but did not go underneath the vehicle. The child’s mother stated Khario had to go the restroom, so he had crossed the road and urinated next to the van. She said she had yelled for him to watch for cars as he crossed the road, but the car parked on the west side blocked her vision of the oncoming Century. Khario was transported to St. Anthony Regional Hospital by Carroll County Emergency Medical Services for treatment of minor injuries. Janssen was not cited.
