In moving forward with a bond referendum on the proposed $8.95 million jail on the west side of the Carroll County Courthouse, the board of supervisors on Monday learned more about the two attorney’s in the state of Iowa who work on bond language. Carroll County Auditor, Kourtney Irlbeck, says she found it interesting that there were only two firms doing this work, and she spoke with Mark Cory, from Ahlers and Cooney, and Robert Josten, with Dorsey and Whitney, about the costs associated with development of ballot language.
The emails had Ahlers and Cooney at around $12,000, while Dorsey and Whitney was $12,500 maximum. Irlbeck says there was one thing she did notice on the Dorsey and Whitney pricing estimate that she did not see on the Ahlers and Cooney one. Neil Bock pointed out a difference in language use as well.
Because of those two points, Bock says he believes Dorsey and Whitney would be the most economical choice. Irlbeck adds that in addition to that, the firm is also working on the Floyd County jail referendum. The supervisors approved the selection of Dorsey and Whitney and will be holding a phone conference with Josten, if needed, at a later date. The identified goal right now is to have the jail referendum included on the ballot for the mid-term general election on Tuesday, Nov. 6. The jail committee will meet again on Tuesday, June 26 at 2 p.m. at the Carroll County Courthouse.
