Calhoun County Economic Development Corporation (CCEDC) is beginning the information-gathering process in their county-wide housing study. Executive Director, Jill Heisterkamp, says there are currently two different ways that residents can provide their opinions on the housing supply, the market and the needs they see in their communities and rural areas. There will be an open discussion held on Tuesday, June 19 at the Rockwell City Public Library community room. The meeting will begin at 1:30 p.m. and provide time for attendees to give insights and opinions. Residents can also complete an online survey on their perceptions of the current market for both owner- and renter-occupied housing. In addition to copies that will be available at city offices, local libraries and the Economic Development Corporation office in the Calhoun County Public Health building in Rockwell City, the survey will be available online through the links included here. The assessment is an update from the one done in 1997, and will include all 11 Calhoun County communities, according to Heisterkamp. “Housing is an important foundational piece to economic development and potential growth and sustainability for our communities, counties and businesses, so CCEDC decided to step forward and coordinate this assessment on behalf of the county,” Heisterkamp says. “The accuracy of the county’s housing plan relies on public input, so we are really excited to hear from citizens in all of our communities,” she adds.
