Audubon Sewer Update Nears End, Focus Now Shifts Towards Water

The City of Audubon is nearing the end of their sewer modernizations and are turning their attention towards their water system updates. The $5.1 million sewer and water project was started last summer, and City Clerk, Joe Foran, says one of the last things on the list before the sewer work is finished and they are prepping the lines to be televised.

Foran adds this will make treating runoff and human derived wastewater more efficient and cost-effective in the long run. While work on that project slows down, the city is gearing up to start work on the water systems.

The city is replacing the existing buildings in the well fields with mounds that should greatly reduce maintenance costs. The projects are financed through a $4 million United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Rural Development Loan and a $1.1 million grant. Foran says these should be the last infrastructure improvements for quite some time.

Extensive work on the water project is expected to get started as soon as possible. City officials estimate the updates will be operational by the end of this year.
