The Audubon City Council was approached by the Audubon County Economic Development (ACED) board to propose new bike trails in the community at their most recent meeting. The ACED sought approval to extend the trail near Albert the Bull Park to include paths to the new Audubon Recreation Center and along Division Street towards the city’s downtown. The trails would not be new construction, but they would instead convert a portion of the existing roadways into dedicated bike lanes. The ACED has received several grants to support the majority of the project. If approved, the city’s responsibility would include the painting of the new bike lanes and the installation of associated signage. Several council members expressed concerns that the path would create issues with parking and traffic. The project was not approved at Monday’s meeting, and city officials requested more time to review the routes before moving forward.
