Kuemper’s Spring Play Brings Dr. Seuss’ Characters To Life

The many tales of Dr. Seuss are coming to life this week with the opening of the Kuemper Drama Department’s spring production, “Seussical”. Senior, Dan Miller, plays one of the lead roles as Horton the Elephant and, says the story is an amalgamation of the author’s most well-known works.

The tale follows Horton, a young boy named JoJo and the troubles they encounter during their quest to save the people of Who-ville. JoJo, played by Angela Schulte, is known for having a different way of thinking compared to the other characters. Schulte says her character is disliked for this and later shows how valuable being different can be.

No story based on Dr. Seuss’ works would be complete without the Cat in the Hat. Senior, Bre Augustus fills the role of the wily feline.

“Seussical” debuts Thursday, April 5 at 7 p.m. at the Carroll Rec Center auditorium with additional showings on Friday and Saturday, also at 7 p.m. Tickets can be purchased in advance from the Kuemper High School office or at the door at $6 for adults and $5 for senior citizens and students.
