SCC Voters Decide Future Of Proposed School Projects Next Week

Voters in the South Central Calhoun (SCC) School District will decide the future of an estimated $6 million physical plant and equipment levy (PPEL) next week. If passed, the levy would allow the school to borrow against future property tax revenue to make changes at two of their buildings. Superintendent, Jeff Kruse, says these projects were chosen after evaluating the district’s most critical needs. He says the first project to make the list was a new student services center at the elementary school.

A new gymnasium at the elementary school is included in the vote. Kruse says the current situation is just not meeting the needs of students.

The last proposed project is renovations to the high school locker rooms. Kruse says it has been on the district’s radar for years.

The PPEL requires a simple majority to pass and will add $1.34 per $1,000 of taxable valuation to property owners’ taxes for 10 years and would become effective July 1, 2018. Kruse says SCC has done its best to provide as much information as possible and only one question remains.

Polls are open from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, April 3 at the Lake City Community Building and the Calhoun County Courthouse in Rockwell City. Voters can submit absentee ballots at the county auditor’s office through Monday, April 2.
