The seals on a pump failed at a wastewater treatment plant in Manson Monday, causing the flooding of a pumping station and leading to a discharge of an estimated 10,000 gallons of untreated wastewater into the East Cedar Creek. Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR) officials confirmed that the flow was stopped at approximately 11 a.m. on Tuesday, following the repair of the pump. The DNR is recommending that children and pets be kept away from the creek for 24 to 48 hours following the incident. Authorities will be considering appropriate enforcement action.
