A Jefferson building that has been sitting empty for about eight years will be put back into use as Landus Cooperative announces the creation of a new beef feed center. The 226,000 square foot building on the north side of town was previously used to produce and export soy flakes for tofu. It will be transitioned for distribution, and then eventually to manufacture cattle feed. “We’ve been researching ways to bring this idled building back to life,” says Mark Cullen, chief animal nutrient officer. “This investment in our feed division is one way we want to show our continued commitment to area livestock producers.” By this summer, Landus customers will see bulk feed pick-up and delivery, with texturized feed available immediately and pelleted feed to follow in the next few months. They will also have access to nutrition experts. Feed operations manager, Chris Wallace, will be leading the division, located adjacent to the Landus Cooperative grain, agronomy and SoyChlor operations. Access to the site will be from the south by East Central Street.
