Dozens of cancer survivors, family members, former participants and more gathered Wednesday evening at the Carrollton Centre to kick off the 2018 Relay for Life fundraising season. Kevin Milligan, one of this year’s co-chairs, started the rally by announcing the nationwide Relay for Life theme of “Attacking Cancer from Every Angle”. Milligan said this theme truly highlights the American Cancer Society’s (ACS) purpose for hosting the Relay for Life.
Hosting a successful Relay is a point of pride in Carroll County. Relay Specialist, Kim Durst, told attendees the region had again shown their commitment to fighting cancer by raising over $200,000 in 2017 and placing third in per capita fundraising. She added that each contribution goes back to touch the lives of people.
Carroll County native and surgeon at the University of Iowa, Dr. Ken Nepple, spoke at the event about how some of his research into cancer treatments was directly supported by the ACS. Another of the event’s co-chairs, Andy Reiman, also introduced a new Relay fundraising method, called Taste of Hope.
The 2018 Relay for Life will be held at the Carroll Soccer Complex on Friday, June 22. To register your team or for more information, visit the links included below this story.
