Heating And Cooling Problems At Glidden Library Could Be Fixed Soon

The Glidden City Council is exploring their options for repairs to the library’s heating and cooling systems. Staff has struggled for a long time to keep the library at a comfortable temperature for their patrons. City Clerk, Suzy Danner, says the probable cause for the issue is in the building’s design.

The city currently uses two two-ton HVAC units that manage the library’s temperature. Replacing those units will likely be costly, and the council has not decided if that is the route they will take. Danner says they can improve the situation for a time with a cheap, quick fix.

Research into the pros and cons of those options is still underway. Danner says any repairs will likely be split into two stages. They will start with insulation installation soon.

Geothermal systems generally have a higher upfront cost but can lower the operating costs for the library. Replacing the HVAC units with more powerful ones will not require many changes and will require more energy to operate. City officials did not indicate which option they favored more and will come back to the issue at a future meeting.
