CHS And KHS Large Group Speech Advance 22 Teams To State

Twenty-two speech groups from Carroll and Kuemper Catholic High Schools have advanced to compete at the state level. Kuemper brought 11 groups and Carroll had 15 teams at the Iowa High School Speech Association (IHSSA) District Large Group Contest on Saturday, Jan. 20 in Storm Lake. Nine Kuemper teams received “Superior” or I ratings, which qualifies them for state. Those advancing include: a short film, two musical theater performances, ensemble acting, three group mime teams, radio news and a one-act play. Carroll advanced 13 groups with a I rating including: a one-act play, two reader’s theaters, four ensembles, four improv teams; a group mime and musical theater. Two teams from each school were judged as “Excellent” but will not advance. The 22 teams will compete at the IHSSA State Large Group Contest on Saturday, Feb. 3 in LeMars.
