Pocahontas Man Arrested After Trying To Pass Counterfeit $100 Bill In Storm Lake

Early last week, the Storm Lake Police Department reported they had received a counterfeit $100 bill from a local business. On Thursday, a Pocahontas man was arrested in that investigation. The department says that at approximately noon on Dec. 12, 40-year-old Jeffrey Roberts entered Storm Lake Honda and asked if they could change the $100 for two $50s. Employees questioned Roberts about the authenticity of the bill and he responded by telling them it was just a joke and said they could keep it as a souvenir before he left the business. At approximately 6 p.m., Thursday, Roberts met with investigators at the Storm Lake Police Department, where he was taken into custody and transported to the Buena Vista County jail. He was held on a $5,000 bond. Roberts has been charged with forgery, a class D felony.
