Renovation Planning For Lake City’s Historic Community Building Placed On Hold For Roof Repair

Planning for renovations to Lake City’s Community Memorial Building are being put on hold until repairs can be made to the facility’s roof. City officials became aware of the issue when water began to leak into the building. The repair for the roof is estimated to cost about $15,000. The city’s insurance covers the cost for replacement to the damaged portion, but City Administrator, Eric Wood, says it may be easier to install a whole new surface.

It is estimated to cost approximately $30,000 to complete that project. Any possible renovations to the interior of the Community Building will be out of the question until the leaking roof is addressed. Wood says the potential renovation to the historic building could be costly, and the city has already started exploring funding options.

The project is still in the planning stages, and it is possible a renovation may not occur. The Lake City Community Memorial Building was completed in 1920 and was dedicated to members of the armed forces who served in the Civil War, Spanish-American War and World War I. The structure was added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places in 1990.
