Anyone Issued A Gun Permit After July 1 Needs To Check With Sheriff’s Office For New State-Issued Document

Last year, the State of Iowa approved changes to the way that weapons permits are issued across the state. The new protocols, according to Carroll County Sheriff, Ken Pingrey, were made as a way to create more uniformity with permits to acquire and permits to carry.

He says the process will remain unchanged for residents. The Carroll County Sheriff’s Office will do all the legwork, but the state will do the actual production and distribution of the permits.

The plan was for the program to start July 1, 2017, but there were delays in implementation and it actually went into effect last week. Sheriff Pingrey says that because of those delays, anyone who was issued a new permit or a renewal on July 1 or since has automatically been issued a new state-generated document. All of these individuals will need to come to the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office in the lower level of the Carroll County Courthouse to pick up their new permit. Anyone with questions is asked to contact their office at 792-4393.
