It’s A Tasty Way To Support The United Way At Piranha Club Chili Throwdown

Nighttime temperatures have been dipping below the freezing mark in the past week, the perfect time to get a little heat through some homemade chili. Tonight (Thursday) you can get a sampling from some of the best cooks in the area at the Piranha Club’s annual Chili Throwdown. Manager, Jon Daiker, says they are looking to set records this year, not only in the amount of chili entries, but also in the amount raised through this event for the United Way of Carroll County.

Daiker is on the board for the United Way and Jen Munson, who joined the organization about a year ago, is the executive director. She says in the past, the board had supported 15 agencies with more than $50,000. That number, however, has gone down in the last couple of years.

Munson describes some of the ways they have used proceeds in the past.

A few items included in the silent auction are gift cards to local restaurants and bars, tickets to football games for Iowa State and the Kansas City Chiefs, t-shirts, Maui Jim sunglasses, and much more. There is no cost to get in, only a free-will donation to sample and vote on the chili. Daiker says attendees will also be able to enjoy some live music from local favorite, Corey Waller.

The Throwdown starts at 6 p.m. at the Piranha Club. For those unable to make it to the event tonight, there are ways they can still give to the United Way. More information on how to make a donation and access to details on upcoming fundraisers can be found through the contact points included below.
