Glidden Man Sentenced To Two Days For Fleeing From Law Enforcement While Intoxicated

A Glidden man who fled from authorities at over 100 miles per hour while intoxicated has reached a plea agreement with prosecutors. In a deal filed Monday, 55-year-old Brent Lane Benton agreed to not challenge charges of first offense operating while under the influence, a serious misdemeanor. Benton was sentenced to 60 days imprisonment in the Carroll County jail with all but two days suspended. He was also ordered to pay a fine of $1,250, a 35 percent surcharge and associated court costs. An aggravated misdemeanor charge of eluding at speeds over 25 miles per hour over the speed limit were dropped. The charge stems from an incident on Aug. 17 in which Benton fled from an attempted traffic stop beginning in Carroll and concluding at his residence in Glidden. According to authorities, Benton had a blood alcohol content of .134 percent at the time of his arrest.
