Gubernatorial Candidate, Glasson, Speaks At Guthrie Center Town Hall Saturday

Iowa Citizens for Community Action hosted a town hall meeting in Guthrie Center Saturday, and Democratic candidate for Governor, Cathy Glasson, was the headlining speaker. Glasson, an intensive care unit nurse and union leader, has been campaigning across the state in a series of town hall meetings to hear the concerns of Iowans. During her stop in Guthrie Center, she continued a discussion on clean water, especially in rural communities. “Politicians across the state like to talk about the importance of giving Iowans the best quality of life, and yet over 750 of the waterways in this state are polluted,” Glasson said. “We need our politicians to stop taking directions from big agriculture and factory farms and force them to clean up the mess they’ve made,” she added. She also discussed her claim that she was the first gubernatorial candidate to demand a $15 minimum wage. Fifty-nine-year-old Glasson lives in Coralville and is the president of the SEIU Local 199, which represents thousands of nurses, health care workers and school support employers.
