Staff from the Iowa Department of Natural Resources investigated reports of a whitish liquid in the ditch near the Draper Bottoms Wildlife Area west of Hamburg on Wednesday afternoon. They discovered it was an unknown amount of wheat gluten and water mixed together and land applied by Ben Shinn Trucking for Manildra Milling Company. No fish kill was reported. Water samples were collected for laboratory analysis and the DNR will consider any appropriate enforcement actions.
