The Greene County Board of Supervisors voted Monday to withdraw from the Heart of Iowa mental health and disability services region. The region covers Audubon, Dallas, Greene and Guthrie Counties to provide assistance to residents with mental illness, intellectual and physical disabilities and a variety of other needs. Supervisor, Dawn Rudolph, says the choice to leave Heart of Iowa was not taken lightly.
Greene County has been with Heart of Iowa since 2014. Rudolph says the supervisors felt like Greene County did not receive adequate attention from the group during their time with them and led them to withdraw.
Rudolph wants to stress that leaving Heart of Iowa will have an almost negligible impact on individuals who benefited from Greene County’s involvement in the region.
It is not yet clear which region the supervisors intend to join. Greene County will remain in the Heart of Iowa Region until June 30, 2018. If accepted into another region, their service would begin at the start of next fiscal year on July 1, 2018, leaving no gap in coverage for Greene County residents.
