Ida County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Makes Arrest A Long Way From Home

An Ida County Sheriff’s Office deputy is receiving some well-deserved attention after assisting out-of-state authorities during an arrest while in Alabama for a K9 competition. Deputy Andrew Shillington was stopped at a Walmart parking lot in Foley, Ala. earlier this week when a suspected shoplifter attempted to flee from the store with a number of stolen goods. Shillington’s training kicked in and he leapt into action, using his vehicle to cut off the escaping thief and make the arrest. Ida County Sheriff, Wade Harriman, says, “We could not be prouder of Deputy Shillington in the way he handled the situation. He is representing us well, both in this incident and at the competition.” Shillington and his partner, K9 Anou, were in Foley, Ala. for the U.S. Police Canine Association’s 2017 National Patrol Dog Competition. The best officers and K9s travel from across the country to compete in the yearly event. The pair has placed well in past K9 competitions, including two first-place team trophies and a third-place overall finish in 2016.
