Kuemper golf coach, Deb Gute, has been named the 2017 Sioux City Diocese Catholic Youth Organization (CYO) Coach of the Year. Gute has been with the Kuemper Catholic Schools for 11 years and coaching the girls’ squad for only a few years. She says it was a surprise and honor to be recognized but gives her golfers most of the credit.
Gute has a long history with golf. Before starting with Kuemper, she worked as an assistant golf professional and instructor at a pro-shop in Florida. She says her work there has translated well into coaching.
Under Gute, Kuemper has seen some tremendous success. She says keeping the girls competitive while making it fun is the key to her success.
Just last season, the team finished 5th at the 3A state golf tournament, 2nd at the Atlantic Invitational, 3rd at the Hawkeye 10 Conference Tournament and 1st at the Storm Lake Invitational.
