The Glidden City Council has approved a resolution to send a decision to voters later this year on changes to the city’s library board. Three adjustments are being proposed. Reaching quorum for board meetings has posed a problem for some time, and the council is suggesting the number of members be reduced to five. The Glidden Public Library Board of Trustees consists of seven members presently. In an effort to encourage interest in board of trustee positions, the council is also requesting board terms be reduced by half, from six years to three years. The final change proposed would reallocate the appointment of board members to the city council. Changing this method will make board selections more consistent with the other boards. Appointments currently fall to the mayor, but nearly all others are handled by the city council. The changes will require more than 50 percent approval to pass and goes to voters on Tuesday, Nov. 7.
