The Audubon City Council is considering offering their employees the chance to “gift” some of their paid time off (PTO) to a coworker. City Clerk, Joe Foran, says this is an option that would not likely be used often, but would greatly benefit staff during a personal emergency.

Foran says the idea did not originate from the council, but rather from one of the city’s department heads.

In order to allow gifting of vacation or sick days, the council needs to approve a memo of understanding with the city employees’ union. Foran says they did not do so at Monday’s meeting.

It is likely the council will vote to approve the measure at the next meeting on Monday, Oct. 9 at 5:30 p.m. at Audubon City Hall.
