Ar-We-Va Administration Pleased With Bond Measure And Write-In Campaign Outcome

The school elections that took place on Tuesday night included Public Measure A, a renewal of the Physical Plant Equipment Levy (PPEL) for the Ar-We-Va Community School District. The measure required a minimum of 60 percent of the vote to pass, and Superintendent, Jeff Kruse, says they were more than pleased with voter response.

The 10 years had expired on the previous PPEL, so the board had to go back to the public for the funds that support a wide variety of things within the school district.

Previous PPEL funds have been used in the recent gymnasium upgrades, and Kruse says, since the levy was renewed, they are now in conversations to work on getting air conditioning installed in the Westside building. Tuesday night also brought the re-election of Danielle Shrad to the board. They also had one other seat open, but no candidates had filed papers to run. The voters, through a write-in campaign, placed Casey Bruch on the ballot. Bruch, however would have the option of accepting or declining the nomination. Kruse says he had the opportunity to visit with her at their recent scholarship chicken dinner.

If Bruch had not accepted the nomination, the board would have been tasked with appointing a member to fill the empty seat.
