Updates To Workforce Housing Tax Program Could Spur Construction In Carroll County

Communities across the county as well as the Carroll Area Development Corporation continue to use last year’s housing study as a foundation for filling gaps identified in the report. Executive Director, Shannon Landauer, says that they are pleased to see the current construction, but in the City of Carroll, there hasn’t been any housing project yet identified that falls under the $200,000 threshold.

She adds that the most significant thing that they have been doing is providing information to local contractors. Also, during the last legislative session, the Workforce Housing Tax Credit program from the Iowa Economic Development Authority (IEDA) saw some significant changes.

They will also receive a rebate back on building materials.

This is certainly a benefit, Landauer says, but they are out to 2020 for reimbursement already. This means that the contractor can be approved to build a home and become part of the program, but they will not receive any of the monetary benefits until 2020. Housing is still very active, Landauer says, but they are pleased to see these incentives that will help drive projects throughout the county.
