A Carroll woman was sentenced in district court last week after submitting a plea on a misdemeanor assault charge. Nineteen-year-old Biyanka Akur was ordered to serve two days in jail with credit for time served, a 35-percent criminal surcharge and associated court costs from the case. The sentence stems from an incident in Carroll on March 30 at the Fairview Village Apartments on East 18th St. At approximately 1:30 a.m., Akur and associates assaulted a female victim, Lisa Wiederien, by hitting and kicking her as she attempted escape from the attack into her apartment after being pepper sprayed. Akur and another woman forced their way into her residence and continued to assault her. Wiederien required medical attention for her injuries.
