An updated Workforce Development-Laborshed report through the Carroll Area Development Corporation (CADC) includes a fringe benefit analysis, an advanced manufacturing profile and a value-added ag profile. The document will be distributed to CADC partners and on the organizations website soon. Executive Director, Shannon Landauer, told supervisors recently that this ties back directly to incentives and what is being seen with the recent Apple and Toyota-Mazda Corporations’ interest in building in Iowa. She says her organization does talk a lot about these incentives and “the But For” clause.
She says there is a lot for Carroll County to study and to learn from what is happening right here in Iowa today.
Landauer says everyone is watching closely as Toyota negotiates for the possible placement of a plant in eastern Iowa and as the deal with Apple to build a $1.375 billion data center in Waukee plays out. The question, however, becomes whether the more than $213 million in incentives for the Apple deal and the additional incentives to come with the Toyota one are going to reap benefits for the people of Iowa.
Carroll County has seen a lot of expansion, and Landauer says their role and responsibility is to take care of the local employers, help them reach their growth potential, but to keep the impacts of these incentives top of mind.
