Webster County Attorney’s Office Files Three Felony Charges Against Man Accused Of Lottery Ticket Theft

A Fort Dodge man has been charged with theft and lottery fraud following an investigation by the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) and Iowa Lottery after more than $20,000 in scratch tickets were determined stolen. The Fort Dodge Police Department and DCI arrested 31-year-old Christopher A. Breyfogle on Monday, July 31 for his connection to missing lottery tickets from a Yesway convenience store in Fort Dodge where he worked as an assistant manager. In August of 2016, the Iowa Lottery requested DCI open an investigation into tickets missing from the store. They determined Breyfogle took entire packs from the store and redeemed them at other retail locations for over $11,000 in prizes. The Webster County Attorney’s Office filed the charges in Webster County District Court on Tuesday, Aug. 1. He faces two counts of first-degree theft, class C felonies, and lottery fraud, a class D felony. First-degree theft is punishable by up to 10 years imprisonment and $10,000 in fines. Lottery fraud carries a maximum five-year prison term and $7,500 in fines.
