Memorial Park In Breda Has A New Disc Golf Course Thanks To Three College Students Home On Break

A new disc-golf course is being installed in Breda thanks to the hard work of three college-aged men wanting to give back to the community. Andrew Evans and Calvin McDermott, sophomores at Iowa State University and Tyler Harmening, a second-year student at the University of Northern Iowa, were home during summer break and decided to make good use of their time off from classes. Evans says their love of the sport helped bring the project to life.

They approached the Breda City Council in June to request permission to build in Memorial Park. Once they had approval, they started raising the estimated $4,500 needed to build the course. They sold sponsorships to local businesess for individual holes at $650 per hole. McDermott says that part was easier than expected.

All 9 holes were sponsored within a few weeks of fundraising. Work on the course began Sunday, July 30. The City of Breda and several businesses donated labor and materials. With their help it only took a few days to be finished.

The only pieces left to be added to the course are the hole sponsorship signs. Those are expected to be finished and installed in the next few weeks.
