The Carroll County Sheriff’s Office has taken to Facebook to warn area residents of a common scam that is re-circulating. They have been receiving reports that calls are coming in from individuals claiming to be with Publisher’s Clearing House. They are telling people that they are prize-winners, but will need to secure a money order from Walmart for one percent of the winnings. This is a scam. Publisher’s Clearing House does not ask winners to provide them with cash. If you are contacted by these people, simply hang up and let the local authorities know of the attempt.
