Crawford County Begins Burn Ban Thursday Due To Dry Conditions

Crawford County will be under a burn ban beginning later this week. On Thursday, July 20 at noon, residents in the unincorporated areas of the county will be barred from the use of open flames except in certain cases. Under state law, controlled burns are still allowed if a permit is acquired from the region’s fire chief. Outdoor fireplaces, barbecue grills and trash incinerators are still allowed but are discouraged. Crawford County Emergency Management Coordinator, Gregory Miller, says the county opted to adopt the ban due to the unusually dry summer the area is experiencing. There is no limit to how long the burn ban will last, but it will likely be rescinded after the next major rain. Violation of the order is considered a simple misdemeanor. The burn ban only refers to the unincorporated areas of Crawford County and regulations will vary from city to city.
