One of the most important moments in human history was the invention of the printing press around 1440 by Johannes Gutenberg. Communication has advanced a long way in the last 600 years, but a special program about the history of the letterpress will allow people a chance to experience how the original machine operated. On Thursday, July 27, the Historical Society of Iowa will host this as part of their “On the Rocks” series from 5:45 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the State Historical Museum in Des Moines on the history of mass communication with pre- and post-Gutenberg press examples and a working replica of the original machine. Tickets are $10 in advance or $15 at the door, and individuals must be at least 18 years of age to attend. A link with more information about the program and how to purchase tickets can be found included below this story.
