Two drivers were injured in an accident near the Greene and Boone County line on Friday morning. At approximately 7:30 a.m. deputies from both the Greene and Boone County Sheriff’s Offices responded to the scene on Highway 30 west of Beaver. An Ames man, Wendell Lee Jr., was eastbound in a Buick Rendezvous when he lost control, entering the westbound lane, striking an oncoming Landus Cooperative truck, driven by Mitchell Smotchers of Ogden. Smotchers had taken evasive action to avoid a collision, but the rear end of the truck was hit, causing both vehicles to roll in the north ditch. Both men were transported for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. Lee was transported to Greene County Medical Center in Jefferson by Grand Junction Fire and Rescue and Smotchers was transported to Boone County Hospital by Boone County Emergency Medical Services. Both vehicles were deemed a total loss and charges against Lee are pending. The incident remains under investigation by the Boone County Sheriff’s Office.
