Breda Ball-field Receives $10,000 Grant To Assist With Renovations

The Breda Little League Board has been awarded a $10,000 grant from Royals Charities, the civic-minded foundation of the Kansas City Royals. The money is to be used for renovations of the baseball field in town as dugouts, fencing and batting cages, are currently in the process of being updated or repaired. The effort to renovate the more than 50-year-old facility began in earnest last fall. Chad McDermott, city councilman and board member, was shocked when he received word they were selected. “We actually received the check before we were aware Breda had been chosen. I had to look at it twice to be sure it was real. Everybody else did not believe it,” says McDermott The grant was made possible by $10,000 in funding set aside by the Community Foundation of Carroll County to assist in the project. With those matching dollars, they became eligible for the Royalty Fields grant, which encourages kids to “play ball”. The entire renovation is estimated to be completed later this fall.
