911 Call About Possible Drowning At Swan Lake Ends With Arrest Of Supposed Victim

The Carroll County Sheriff’s Office and Carroll County Emergency Medical Services responded to a 911 call about a possible drowning at Swan Lake State Park at approximately 9:30 a.m. Monday morning. When they arrived at the beach area, they found two females in the lake, one of which was holding the other woman’s head out of the shallow water. The woman who was being restrained, 32-year-old Nyanwier Mon Mawier of Cactus, Texas, was reportedly yelling that she was hearing voices coming from the lake and was trying to get closer to them. Authorities pulled the woman to safety on the beach, but she was becoming increasingly violent and needed to be handcuffed. Officers detected a strong odor of alcohol coming from Mon Mawier and conducted a search, uncovering an open container of vodka that was seven-eighths empty. Mon Mawier was taken into custody and transported to the Carroll County jail. She was charged with public intoxication after recording a blood alcohol content (BAC) well above the legal limit. Members of the Monona County Sheriff’s Office and the Iowa Department of Criminal Investigation (DCI) assisted at the scene.
