Nineteen Kuemper Catholic Schools’ individual speech performances received excellent or “1” ratings at Saturday’s Iowa High School Speech Association (IHSSA) state competition at Sioux City East. Eighteen students competed in 23 categories, with five students who performed in two different categories and received “1” ratings in each. They are: senior, Paige Tiefenthaler in Literary Program and Expository Address; senior, Maggie Steinkamp in Solo Musical Theatre and Original Oratory; junior, Draven Haefs in After Dinner Speaking and Acting; sophomore, Matilda Pugh in Poetry and Storytelling; and freshman, Kira Parkis in Prose and After Dinner Speaking. Students who received “1” ratings may be nominated to perform at the All State Festival at the University of Northern Iowa (UNI) on March 27. Those selected will be announced this (Monday) afternoon.
