Storm Lake Woman Arrested After Allegedly Stealing ‘Substantial’ Amounts Of Cash From A Taco John’s

A Storm Lake woman was arrested and charged with a long list of crimes early Friday morning after authorities determined she was stealing “substantial” amounts of cash from a restaurant in town. On Monday, Jan. 30, the Storm Lake Police Department was notified of thefts occurring at Taco John’s on Thursday, Jan. 26, Sunday, Jan. 29 and Monday, Jan. 1 in the overnight hours. Authorities began a physical surveillance operation and observed 29-year-old Madison Selzer, of Storm Lake, attempting to enter the building with the use of a key at approximately 1:20 a.m on Friday, Feb. 4. Selzer fled the scene after being confronted by officers and was apprehended in the 200 block of East Milwaukee Avenue after a brief chase. Officers discovered a key belonging to Taco John’s in her pocket, along with a marijuana pipe and small amount of marijuana. Selzer was arrested and booked into the Buena Vista county jail with charges of ongoing criminal conduct, a class B felony, second degree attempted burglary, and three counts of third degree burglary, all class D felonies. She is also charged with possession of a controlled substance, a serious misdemeanor and possession of drug paraphernalia, interference with official acts, and two counts of theft in the fifth degree, all simple misdemeanors. The investigation is currently ongoing and more arrests are expected. The Storm Lake Police Department was assisted by the Iowa Department of Corrections during the investigation.
