Kuemper Catholic High School had 60 sophomores, juniors and seniors along with 12 freshman perform in 18 different events at Saturday’s Iowa High School Speech Association’s large-group contest in Denison. Twelve of those 18 performances received “1” or excellent, ratings and will be advancing to compete in the state competition to be held in Spencer on Saturday, Feb. 4. The remaining six groups received “2” ratings and will not advance to state. Coach, Deb Gute said she and the other coaches: Susan Glass; Jake Gute; Lydia Schettler, Barb Toohey; and Nick Brincks are “Pleased with the results. Many of the students and coaches put in a lot of time and effort for this performance and showed significant growth through the experience.” Gute also thanked the parents, coaches and school administration for support of the fine arts at Kuemper.
