The Greene County Sheriff’s Office, Churdan Rescue and the Jefferson, Scranton and Churdan Fire Departments all responded to a fire at a hog confinement building southeast of Churdan on Monday afternoon. At approximately 2:10 p.m., authorities arrived at 990 160th Street to find the structure, owned by Jonathan Minnehan, engulfed in flames. No animals were in the building and no injuries were reported. The building, however, is considered to be a total loss. Another building to the north was filled with hogs, but only sustained smoke damage. Authorities believe the fire originated from a propane heater.
