CHS Blood Drive A Huge Success

The Carroll High School (CHS) Student Senate puts on a blood drive every semester, and Wednesday’s effort was a tremendous success. Three CHS Seniors, Spencer Armstrong, Jamie Stuhr and Hannah Rowedder, were helping run the blood drive and say giving blood is more than just time out of someone’s day.

They said this has been one of the smoothest blood drives any of them had participated in, and Armstrong and Stuhr noticed no major problems had come up.

Rowedder said she wouldn’t be donating today.

That did not stop her from ensuring the blood drive was a success though. She and the other students helped escort donors to and from the donation chairs and kept an eye to make sure they made it safely to the rest area. The Student Senate Adviser, Kathy Cordes, says students get more than just the satisfaction of helping save lives. The blood collection agency, LifeServe, offers a $750 scholarship to students who help collect the most units.

By the time the drive began to close down, nearly 100 units of blood had been collected. More than half of the donations came from students and staff at CHS. The student will hold their next blood drive in the spring semester.
