Iowa House Candidate Myers Says He Has Seen First Hand The Issues In Our Area

Democratic candidate, Ken Myers, is running for the District 12 Iowa House seat against Republican incumbent, Brian Best. Myers is running for a political office for his first time, and he says being new is a positive.

Myers served as a police officer and paramedic in Denison before joining the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office in 2002. He has over 20 years working among the public and says that gives him a more personal view of the issues affecting citizens.

His primary concerns lie with the healthcare system, mental health and school budgets. Mental health services have been regionalized, and patients must travel longer distances to receive treatment. Tying in to that is the privatization of Iowa’s Medicaid program which Myers says is not the answer.

Rural schools have similar issues with funding in certain areas. Myers’ challenger, Best, wants to see school have more flexibility with their budgets, but Myers does not see that as a solution.

District 12 includes Carroll County, Audubon County and an eastern portion of Crawford County. The election for the Iowa House seat takes place on Tuesday, Nov. 8. Carroll Broadcasting will bring you more from candidates in upcoming broadcasts.
