Creativity Abounds in Carroll Courthouse Celebration and Time Capsule Submissions

On Friday, Carroll County will be coming together to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Carroll County Courthouse, beginning with a Chamber Coffee from 8 to 9 a.m., which will be followed by a special ceremony at 9 a.m. Anniversary committee co-chair and County Assessor, Cindy Heuton, says that it has been a lot of fun working on the plans for Friday morning.

She said everyone has been thinking beyond paper and presenting unique items that will show future residents who they are and how life was in 2016.

Heuton said they have toy scale-model John Deere and International tractors to showcase the current models of today, a small window from Pella, a miniature bus from Windstar, a brick from Manning Main Street engraved with their logo and three items Heuton said people will have a lot of fun with in 25 years–Templeton Rye, Ruby Dooby from Santa Maria Winery and a bottle of Iowa Legendary Rye. She is, however, still looking for some items.

Eric Neu will be hosting Friday’s ceremony that Heuton estimates will take a little less than an hour. All county officials still living and in the area have been invited to be recognized at the ceremony and there will be performances by other special invitees.

Heuton added, noon on Friday will be the deadline to place silent bids on the limited edition anniversary coins. These can be submitted to the Assessor’s Office any time up until then. A full listing of the current items to be placed in the next time capsule, full audio of this interview and photos of the items in the 1991 time capsule can be found below.
